Voice-chat / comms recording in sync with demo playback
Okay, so this is practically two or more feature requests in one, so feel free to split it up (labelled with #1 and #2).
What problem does it solve?
Me and my team love to review our games in skybox, however it often happens that players can't recall correctly if an enemy's position was called or not, and if so, when it was called. Did my teammate not have info? Did he react late? Or from the IGL's perspective: How was my team's reaction to my call? Did they follow it immediately? Was there second guessing?
Those really are questions you can only honestly answer if you have a recording of your comms at hand, however scrolling through voice recordings with no good point of reference is painfully time consuming. A better way is to screen record your game and record the comms-audio with it, so you at least have both picture and audio to find the scene in question quicker.
So here comes my idea for a feature:
What if, there was a way, to have the ingame comms (only works in faceit and other 3rd party services, not MM though) available when reviewing in skybox (#1), or for teams to have the opportunity to hand in an audio file, that gets chopped up in the same places our demos do and that we can then have running in sync with the demo in skybox (#2)? That would be mind-blowingly cool.
Technical suggestions / further explanation
So this is just my 2 cents on how this could be done and why I came up with the idea and thought it was doable.
#1 have in-game voice chat in skybox
If possible have it pulled from the demo as well, when you analyze it in the cloud, then put it skybox with a mute button, so people can listen to it whenever they feel like it. I assume this is catered more towards casual players or players not playing in teams, where the in-game voice chat is the main source of information during the round. This audio is already in sync with the demo, so hopefully it should be possible to chop it up they same way the demo is chopped up so freezetimes, warmup and so on get removed (if desired), while timeouts should generally be included.
#2 have and additional audio file submitted and synced up with the demo
Here things get more complex for sure but if users are able to upload audio files separately and link them with a demo then this might be doable as well. It will most likely have to be the user's responsibility to cut the audio so that it starts with a notable event in the game (beginning of knife round/Β first round / ... ), then the same logic could apply as above where the audio gets chopped up the same way the demo does by translating ticks into timestamps and thus enabling the user to mute/unmute their submitted recording during the review.
I know I'm asking a lot with this but would be super-duper dope to see this in skybox at one point. Cheers!
